Recovery & Support for Hypospadias in Children

After hypospadias surgery, your doctor at Hassenfeld Children鈥檚 Hospital at 觅圈资源站 Langone聽shows you how to care for your son鈥檚 dressing and catheter.

Your baby鈥檚 pediatric urologist may remove the catheter one week after surgery. He or she examines your son at various intervals to ensure proper healing of the penis. After six months, the penis should be fully healed. The specialist may ask you to schedule an office visit when the child is toilet training, so that the doctor can check the urinary stream. Your son鈥檚 pediatrician also continues to check the health and functioning of your son鈥檚 penis, typically during annual checkups and particularly during toilet training and puberty.

Most boys recover fully from surgery for hypospadias. Successful repair generally lasts a lifetime without problems, even throughout puberty, when the penis grows rapidly. Our experts ensure your family receives the support it needs during this recovery period. These child and family support services and resilience programs are provided by Sala Institute for Child and Family Centered Care.
